Define and assign metadata tags to catalog objects for classification and governance.

Category: configuration

Description

## Overview The Tags page enables data stewards and governance officers to define metadata tags and assign them to catalog objects such as tables and columns. Tags provide a lightweight, flexible classification system that supports data governance, discoverability, and policy enforcement across the platform. Teams use tags to mark objects with categories like PII, financial, deprecated, or tier-1, and then leverage those tags for search, filtering, and automated policy application. Tags complement the business glossary by attaching machine-readable labels that downstream systems and reports can consume programmatically. ## Key Features - **Tag definition management.** Create, rename, and delete tag definitions. Each tag has a unique name and an optional description that clarifies its intended use. Tags can represent data classification levels, ownership domains, quality tiers, or any custom taxonomy. - **Tag assignment to tables and columns.** Assign one or more tags to individual tables or columns. Bulk assignment is supported so that a single tag can be applied across multiple objects in one operation. Removing a tag from an object does not delete the tag definition itself. - **Tag-based search and filtering.** Filter the catalog tree and table listings by one or more tags to locate objects that match a given classification. This capability accelerates impact analysis, audit preparation, and data discovery workflows. ## Workflow 1. Open the Tags page from the Configuration sidebar. 2. Create a new tag definition by specifying a name and optional description. 3. Navigate to the table or column that requires classification. 4. Assign one or more tags to the selected object. 5. Use the tag filter controls to verify that tagged objects appear correctly in search results. 6. Periodically review tag assignments to retire deprecated tags and ensure classification accuracy.
